14e: Aloe Nourish Foundation

Foundation can be tricky to tackle. Not only is there the challenge of finding the right color, but also since it covers all areas of your face, finding out how it reacts to those individual skin types. Will it dry? Will it be over-oily? Will it break me out? Will it crease or crack? Will it fade or run or melt? Ahhhh! So many things to worry about! Since I have pretty much all of those problems, it always seems extra tricky for me. But I’ve found a great option to avoid many of those negatives with 14e Aloe Nourish Foundation.

What it is:
14e Aloe Nourish Foundation is an all-natural face makeup that comes in 5 shades and two formulations. There is the foundation and a lighter, sheerer option – the Aloe Nourish Sheer Tint. I’ve tried both but settled on the foundation as it provides more coverage. The base ingredient for both 14e products is aloe vera. This replaces the need for water so no water is used in the formula at all. Water can harbor bacteria so to have this made without it is fantastic for people with bacterial induced skin problems (i.e. acne). Also, good for those with skin problems – the formula includes skin-calming ingredients such as Gotu Kola & Licorice Root. The ingredients were formulated by an Ayurvedic molecular biologist to specifically relieve and treat symptoms of acne and combat signs of aging.

Why I like it:
I chose the Aloe Nourish Foundation and I picked the color Sand. There is the fantastic option to purchase samples on the website before picking which formulation/color so I took advantage of that. My skin is pretty pale so I wasn’t sure if I needed the lightest color or not. The color Seashell (the lightest) is definitely for true porcelain so I settled on Sand. I have a reddish/cool tint to my skin yet it’s still pretty light and this and this one matches pretty spot on. I like that the foundation isn’t too thick coming out of the pump (it’s a little more a liquid than a cream) and blends into the skin well leaving a semi-matte finish on my skin (I have pretty oily skin too). It wears light yet is a medium coverage foundation. It’s buildable to be more full coverage if desired. I generally lean towards the lighter-wear side so I can’t vouch for how full coverage it can get. I will say though, that it covers most imperfections I have in my skin with just one application and reduces the need to conceal everything – which has been a fantastic time saver for me. Like I said, I have oily skin so by the end of the day I still get a little oily and sometimes have to do a bit of a re-blend to fix any cracks the oil has caused but it’s an easy fix. One of my major must-haves was that it didn’t settle into my smile lines and this one doesn’t at all (I also be sure to avoid putting powder in that area just to be safe). The other thing I love about this foundation is that it includes SPF – the Foundation is SPF 23 and the Sheer Tint is SPF 10. This eliminates the need for adding another product to my routine – I try to minimize where I can.

Who it’s good for:
Both the Foundation and Sheer Tint formulas were formulated for people with any kind of skin problem. This would especially be good for those with acne. I’ve found that it doesn’t aggravate my skin and doesn’t make me breakout at all. Any acne I’ve had while using this is entirely hormone based (which a foundation can’t fix – unfortunately J)

When & How I use it:
I use this just like any other foundation (on my face obv). I think it would lend itself well for use with a sponge applicator or other type of applicator but I use my fingers. I know that’s not totally recommended but it works the best for me. I find it applies best if you use a moisturizer or facial oil underneath but isn’t required. I always follow up by setting it with this translucent powder. One pump is more than enough so I generally just pump a small amount out at a time to avoid waste. This foundation goes a long way and one bottle lasts a long time. My current bottle has lasted 4.5 months so far and looks like it will easily last me until the end of this month too (and maybe a bit beyond). Also, an awesome side note – the bottles have an airless pump that allows you to use every last drop so there is no waste. When it’s all gone the bottle is then 100% recyclable.
