January Subscription Box Favorites

January Subscription Box Favorites

The new year is off to a great start, well as far as subscription boxes go anyway! This month was a little quieter for reviews than some others, but that doesn’t mean there was a shortage of great finds. In fact, the subscription boxes I review really started the year off with a bang by including some really awesome items. I could have easily picked more than one item from every  box for this January subscription box favorites roundup, but managed to narrow it down.

One of the highlights from this month is that I reviewed a brand new box – Essentials Crate! It’s a box curated around a sustainable swap in the household, personal care, beauty or wellness space that helps you live a more eco-conscious lifestyle. The first one was all about beverages on-the-go and it had everything you’d need for your morning cuppa whatever gets you going. Anyway, it’s a fun box so make sure and click the link below for more details.

As usual, I’ve picked an item to highlight from each subscription box review I’ve done in the last month so you can get a taste for what comes in each. Be sure to click the link to get the full box reviews so you can get the complete details too! Many are linked over to A Year of Boxes where you can find discount codes and more if you’re interested in subscribing.

midnight paloma detox mask
From Nourish Beauty Box (full box review here):
Midnight Paloma – Detox Mask

I love face masks and am always excited to find them in subscription boxes. They are definitely one of my favorite items to receive since they work so for many different skin types. Dry masks are especially great as they have a longer shelf life and you can mix in whatever liquid you prefer. I usually use water but might try this one with honey. This mask sounds so nice and although detoxing, still a gentle option. It’s made with just 4 simple ingredients: white clay, rolled oats, charcoal, and rose petals. I can’t wait to give this one a try!

spellwork for selfcare book
From Goddess Provisions Box (full box review here):
Spellwork For Self-Care Guidebook ($11.11)

“Infuse your self-care routine with a little magic. This mystical guidebook includes 40 simple spells to soothe the spirit and honor the divine within and around you.”

I don’t know too much about spell work, but am really intrigued to learn more so I’m really glad a little guidebook came with this month’s items. It’s the perfect small size to bring wherever you go and includes info on the basics of spell work along with so many spells to use for when you seek self love, manifestation, confidence and/or guidance. It’s a really cute book that has sweet illustrations that are inspiring and eye catching. Can’t wait to dig into this one.

clear nail polish
From Vegancuts Beauty Box (full box review here):
Dr’s Remedy – Bio-Sourced Basic Base Coat enriched Nail Polish ($18)

“This eco-friendly base coat is enriched with garlic bulb extract, tea tree oil, as well as vitamins A and E for healthier nourished nails. Apply a single coat as the base for colored polished application or wear alone for a healthy natural look.”

This item is great! Clear nail polish isn’t always thrilling, but I actually don’t have a 10-free base coat in my small nail polish stash so I’m grateful to have one now for when I want to do an at home mani. I like that not only is it 10-free, but is also enriched with vitamins and other nourishing ingredients to help provide a little care for nails while you’re wearing it.

peanut butter and jelly frooze balls
From Vegancuts Snack Box (full box review here):
Peanut Butter & Jelly Frooze Balls

“A sweet treat with a peanut-buttery center.”

I love, love, love peanut butter and jelly so this item is perfect for me! I generally try to stay gluten-free so this is a great replacement for when I’ve got a craving but want to avoid bread.

j&L face salve
From Kinder Beauty (full box review here):
J&L Naturals: Calm Vegan Face Salve ($14.99)

“This Calm Face Salve from J&L Naturals is an absolute must in your skincare regimen. The vitamin-rich shea butter and olive oil work to moisturize and condition your skin while hemp seed oil helps balance your skin’s natural oil production. Packed with antioxidants, the babassu oil calms irritated skin and works with a blend of tea tree and lavender essential oils to fight acne and prevent future breakouts. This outstanding combination replenishes troubled skin to revive your natural glow. Oh yeah, and did we forget to mention it comes in a completely compostable and biodegradable container?”

This is another great item for my fussy skin! It’s made with super simple and nourishing ingredients that sound like they’ll help tend to irritation. It’s a rich balm that’s harder in the container, but melts when applied to skin for easy application and it smells so herbally-wonderful. I love that it’s consciously made and housed in a completely plastic-free container.

reusable glass to-go cup
From Essentials Crate (full box review here):
Reusable Glass & Cork Cup

I love this little to-go cup! I don’t have anything like it yet so this is a perfect addition to my plastic-free collection. It’s a 12oz cup that comes with a cork sleeve for heat protection and a silicone lid with a plug to cover the mouthpiece when not in use. I love drinking tea and had been wanting to find a new cup for bring along in the car so this will get a lot of use.

Splendid spoon chana potato stew
From Splendid Spoon (full box review here):
Channa Potato Stew

“A bold Eastern chili, fragrant, and packed with flavor. CHICKPEAS- Protect against injury and reduce inflammation, GINGER – Boosts immune system and fights inflammation, CURRY – An immunity superhero.”

The full ingredient list is: water, organic potatoes, onions, chickpeas, extra virgin olive oil, curry powder, tamarind, cilantro, ginger, sea salt, habanero peppers.

I love this stew! It’s one of my faves that I’ve ordered on my own repeatedly. It’s a hearty and super warming stew that’s so comforting for the winter months. There’s definitely a bit of heat, but certainly not too much for me. It’s nothing that lingers, only that warms your belly. The texture of the stew is great with the chickpeas and potatoes. The potatoes are chopped small and really make it interesting. This one is filling and delicious!
