July Favorites

It’s been a few since I gathered any monthly favorites but I finally have some new ones to share. Two were brand new to me recently and one is something I’ve been using for awhile but had never shared.

Unfortunately I decided to write about the latter before checking their website to see if it was still for sale (I just assumed it was) and found after writing and photographing it that the brand is going through a refresh, so who knows if this product will be part of the new line. So if you’re really jazzed about the foot scrub after reading my review (which you obviously will be), you might be able to find it on Amazon still (at the time of this post it was still available), but otherwise will have to hope they bring it back like I do because I’m almost out and it’s still sandal season for several more weeks! If not, I’ll be on the hunt for a new one and will share with you what I find. In the meantime here’s what I’ve been loving this month:

The Honest Company Extreme Length Mascara + Primer

Ok, so I have a post here that talks all about how I was done looking for a new mascara and that natural mascaras always leave my eyes feeling itchy, but recently some bloggers had been raving about this mascara so I decided to give it a go once my tried-and-true dried up. Now the verdict is in: I love this mascara! I was hesitant to try it because, like I said, I have allergic reactions to mascaras sometimes, but I’ve had no problems with this one at all. It isn’t the absolute cleanest mascara on the market but it’s much better then many options and beats the one I previously referenced too, which by the way I would still use even though the ingredients are less clean.

I don’t know what kind of sorcery is in this mascara, but it really lengthens and va-va-vooms your lashes like it claims. I am a hardcore mascara fan so I would not lead you astray on this. It’s different than other mascaras because it’s a two-in-one product with a separate lash primer included. The lash primer is white and is applied with a few quick swipes then left to set for 30 seconds before then applying the mascara itself. The primer really helps lengthen, and prep the separation – it creates a structure. Then when you apply the mascara it’s like it already has the drywall, you just need the paint.

The two products in one thing is the only small downside to this one. I don’t love is when two products are combined into one package- because if you run out of one before the other you have to buy a whole new product so it can be wasteful. But I can see why they do it because you really need both for maximum success. I’m hopeful that they run out or dry out around the same time but we’ll see. This is my first tube so I’m not sure.

One other important note: I’ve always been much more keen on the traditional/classic mascara wand style but this one has the comb style wand. I’ve previously claimed to hate the comb style wand because it never applied enough product and felt like more work, but I actually like it with this product, so I’ve got to retract my disdain.

The Sunday Standard Superfood Oil-to-Milk Cleansing Balm

I just love this cleanser, it’s such a treat. I was so hesitant to try anything like an oil cleanser because I assumed it would aggravate breakouts but after hearing like a million people say it wouldn’t, I decided to try. Also everyone keeps saying “oil dissolves oil” and I never could believed it even though it’s science, but it really does work! Oil dissolves oil, people!

The texture of this cleanser is wonderful. It’s creamy and for the first few seconds of application there is a hint of grit to it that is almost like a mini pre exfoliant, it dissolves quickly and melts into a smooth texture that glides well and feels soothing to skin. I rub in for several minutes and make it sort of a facial-like massage. By doing this it gives me the opportunity to loosen my facial muscles too. They can get so tight from stress and this reminds me they need to be tended to. After the relaxing massage I run my hands under the water quickly and use that bit of water to turn the cleanser into a milk consistency. It lathers a little and becomes runny. This part gets a little messy for me (think running down arms if you’re not careful) but it feels so nice. When the water is added the cleanser almost feels cooling. Then I take a wet, warm washcloth and wipe to rinse off what remains. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed and so clean, not oily or greasy at all.

I of course have to mention that the ingredients are fantastic too and it’s so thoughtful in what is included and why. Spirulina is packed with nutrients to nourish skin, French green clay helps absorb excess oils, and jojoba and castor oils help pull impurities out of pores. Nearly all of the ingredients are certified organic.

I love this cleanser because it feels so luxurious and it’s like a chameleon with the textures and sensations it provides.  And bonus is that it’s just all around gorgeous, the color (from spirulina), the formula and the packaging. Heart eyes emoji times ten.

FIG+YARROW Organic Alpine Pumice Foot Treatment

Like I mentioned up top, this isn’t a brand new product to me. I’ve been using it for awhile, but I’ve never shared and thought that sandal season was the best time to bring it up as a favorite. This is the best foot scrub for tired, dry, feet in need of some love. I’ve tried many others, but so far this one beats them all. It’s like a miracle worker, really. I have dry sometimes flaky feet and this really helps smooth things out.

It’s really quick and easy to use, especially if you use in the shower. It has a thick, paste-like, gritty consistency so you just scoop a little out, rub into problem areas, then rinse. It’s made with certified organic, raw + all natural ingredients including ground pumice stone, shea + coconut butters, baking soda, menthol and essential oils of fir needle + lavender. The pumice granules slough away dry skin and provide the perfect exfoliation leaving feet feeling smooth and refreshed – or like kitten paws as the product label says haha. It smells really great too – like cool mint and woodsy, crisp pine. The menthol contributes to a nice cooling sensation that lingers even after you get out of shower. The only small downside to the product is that since it’s made with rich, moisturizing butters it does leave the shower floor feeling a little greasy, but it washes away rather quickly.

Additionally it’s great to follow up with the foot butter they offer for maximum hydration and softening. I like to do the scrub at night and put the butter on for an overnight treatment. Good stuff I tell ya!

Apparently they are doing a website refresh (here) but you can buy the scrub on Amazon (until they run out I’m guessing?). Hopefully both products are still a part of the lineup once the refresh hits. Fingers crossed! Otherwise this review is moot LOL.

And that’s a wrap on July. Did you find any new favorite products last month??
