Zuzu Luxe Liquid Eyeliner – Raven

It’s said that the eyes are the window to the soul. I think you can learn a lot about someone through their eyes, and even in how they choose to enhance them. I think it seems as if we like to enhance them the most of all our features too. Following the metaphor, it’s like how people paint the doors to their homes or put shutters or curtains on their windows, we want to make our eyes look most inviting. I don’t know if that makes sense but to me it does and I’m no different. Eye makeup is what I’m most interested in and particular about.
If you saw my mascara post, you’ll start to get an understanding of my particularities and they are no less when it comes to my eye liner choices. It’s gotta be black and have staying power and have the perfect wing-ability. And I’m only into liquid liners right now as I feel they are most controllable and have the boldest results. I used to be a die hard Kat Von D and Stila user because they have ultra-precision but, since they aren’t as clean on their ingredient list I went hunting for a new one. This one from Zuzu Luxe has become my new favorite. Read on to see why:
Why I like this liquid eyeliner best:
  1. It’s ultra-black. I don’t mess around with anything less.
  2. It’s essentially matte and has no shimmer to it like some do. I find when there is something like shimmer added, it takes away from the full black effect and makes it look more grey. (Side note: This brand does have a more shimmery option if that’s what you’re into. That color is called Black Pearl)
  3. It lasts a long time even though it looks small.
  4. The wand is a good stiffness (not too stiff, not too soft) so it won’t bend uncontrollably while you’re winging.
  5. It also has a fairly pointy tip giving it good precision. It’s not quite as much precision as the liners from Kat Von D or Stila, but you can still paint a good wing with it, although it might require some practice. I find it easy to make a thin or thick line, but thinner is a bit trickier and requires slower application. I also am sure to make the wing a separate stroke with this one because this product is better when you focus on controlling it. One note, the tip does seem to soften a bit with time but is always still workable.
  6. It dries quickly so I’ve never had problems with blinking right after and getting any on my lids.
  7. It’s essentially smudge-proof so it stays put. If I were to rub my eyes it might smudge a bit but I don’t do that so I never have problems.
  8. Only small downside: It says it’s waterproof, and to a certain extent I agree, but I sometimes get watery eye corners and if I’m not careful, trying to wipe the tears up can sweep the wing up with it. So in summary, you just need to be more mindful of not touching your eyes uncontrollably while wearing.
  9. I have no irritation with this product. It doesn’t itch my eyes.
  10. It comes off really easily with my favorite make-up remover (review for that here).
  11. It has a fairly short ingredient list and all ingredients are rated clean and safe.
  12. It’s gluten free, 100% vegan and cruelty-free, meaning no testing on animals at all.
  13. It’s easy to get quickly as it’s on Amazon and in some Whole Foods.
