Toss-it-Tuesday

Now, I’ve gotten rid of many products over the past few years but, this is my first “official” #TossItTuesday. And while it’s painful to get rid of my old sample stash, it’s got to go. This is actually easier to toss than some products because I’ve never actually tried any of them yet so I don’t even know if I would have liked them anyways. I’ll just assume I would have hated them (ya right). Now don’t get me wrong, I’m starting to have a little FOMO but I know I’ll replace my stash soon enough. 🙂  The first step to reaching a goal is to take one, and that applies fully to going green.

Switching to a green lifestyle isn’t something you can accomplish over night. It’s something that has to be done in small steps. Sometimes it’s made up of steps that take you forward and then back again (looking at you natural deodorant – still working on that one). I’ve found that picking one thing a day or even one thing a week to focus on is how you can get it done. This is where #TossItTuesday comes in.

If you can get rid of just one thing today that isn’t a better product for you, your family & the environment, then you’re on your way! Of course I realize that generally you need to replace that item with a new one but that’s the fun part. There really is an abundance of green, clean, natural, organic and overall better companies in the marketplace today that it’s almost impossible to not find one by doing a simple Google search. I’ll definitely be posting favorite products that I’ve found starting in the near future so stay tuned!

Now in case you’re not sure where to start here is a short, and very incomplete, list of a few items to think about (some of these may or may not be things I still need to purge as well, mostly the M&M’s. Why do I have to love M&M’s so much??):

-M&M’s and other candies with artificial dyes
-Processed foods with artificial ingredients
-Non-organic foods
-Shampoos & hair products with parabens & sulfates
-Soda’s and beverages loaded with sugar
-Windex and other traditional household cleaners
-Plastic containers that aren’t BPA free
-Anything with fragrance listed as one of the ingredients (that one’s a hard one, I know)

Many of the above products are made with artificial ingredients, additives and substances that are considered toxic that can affect the body and the environment in not so good ways. Those results aren’t always obvious but can pose great risks over the long run. For me personally, I believe that toxins I’ve been exposed to have affected my hormones and in turn my fertility factor. I’m on a mission to clean my body up so I can bring a tiny human into this world. #Goals

So tell me, what are you going to toss this week??
